Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross is the first novel in the Letters of Enchantment duology. Set in a magical, war‑torn world reminiscent of early 20th‑century Europe, it follows rival young journalists Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt. Both compete for the coveted columnist position at the Oath Gazette until Iris’s brother is drafted and her mother succumbs to addiction. Driven by desperation, Iris becomes a war correspondent, writing heartfelt letters to her brother via a magical typewriter—only to discover Roman is her mysterious pen pal. As they fall in love through their secret correspondence, they face divine war, personal grief, and the dawning knowledge that their love might shape the fate of their world.

Why You’ll Love It:

• Enchanting epistolary romance: Their bond grows through delay‑lingering letters and witty workplace rivalry—slow‑burn with emotional weight.

• Mythic war backdrop: A clash between gods serves as both metaphor and literal conflict—ambitious, though some readers find the fantasy elements underdeveloped.

• Slow‑burn enemies‑to‑lovers: Witty banter transitions into heartfelt vulnerability, though some felt the romance and pacing shift later in the story.
